Purpose:


The Controller will report directly to and work closely with the CEO and CPA firm to support all functions of financial reporting.

The Controller will specifically be responsible for the management and leadership of the property accounting sub-team within the financial reporting department.

The position will follow a 70/30 approach; with 30% of time spent working from home and 70% from our Boston office location.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide leadership and guidance over the finance team while helping team members to further develop and grow in their roles
  • Participate regularly in discussions with the finance team to ensure reporting needs for fund series and separate accounts are met
  • Participate in establishment and/or enhancement of Derson Real Estate Group Inc. policies and procedures for the entire private equity platform, as well as related technology and other firmwide initiatives
  • Actively manage the reporting for fund series and separate accounts
  • Monitor the financial performance of all Company assets and provide counsel on how to increase revenue and reduce costs
  • Propose action plans to ensure that annual financial objectives are attained
  • Preparation and/or review of quarterly reports, annual business plans, annual audit/tax reporting, etc.
  • Maintain speed and accuracy of all reporting
  • Oversee the daytoday accounting of property assets, all property financial reporting and cash management
  • Approve daily cash receipts and weekly check runs
  • Approve monthly mortgage payments and interest rate SWAPs
  • Review annual income and expense forms for real estate tax filings
  • Review construction draw schedules for active development projects
  • Support the annual budget and quarterly reforecast process
  • Compile quarterly reconciliations of corporate expenses and initiate the related reimbursement from the properties
  • Compile utility expense estimates for the annual property budgets and reforecasts
  • Assist in preparation of property acquisition, disposition, and financing closing statements
  • Build and foster strong relationships with finance, portfolio management, asset management, and acquisitions, as well as joint venture partners and audit/tax
  • Provide support for the annual CAM process
  • Support lender reporting
  • Monitor accounts receivable for collection issues
  • Review waterfall calculations as needed
  • All other projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and/or master's degree in accounting, finance or related field required
  • Must have at least 8 years of progressive experience, real estate industry highly preferred
  • GAAP: 3 years (preferred)
  • Must have MRI software experience, Yardi experience is also desired
  • Must be very detail oriented with a superior work ethic and have strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, leadership, relationship management, time management and verbal/written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office suite and experience with real estate general ledger accounting systems
  • Ability to interact in a teamoriented environment and show a willingness to collaborate and multitask
  • High degree of personal integrity and ability to work effectively in a dynamic work environment
  • Adaptability to changing demands
  • Effective problemsolving skills
  • 3 to 5 years of private equity preferred

Pay:
$80, $120,000.00 per year
