    POSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the GEAR UP Associate Director, with overall direction provided by the Director of EOSP, the Program Coordinator performs a variety of moderate to complex assignments in support of the day-to-day operations of three GEAR UP grants serving a total of up to ten schools with a $4.5 million dollar budget. The incumbent will lead a team of up to 8 Site Supervisors and professional staff, indirect reporting staff and tutors and student assistants.
    Examples of Duties

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:
    • Provide support for delivery of services at participating school sites.
    • Assist in monitoring program service delivery goals.
    • Coordinate curriculum development and annual service delivery plans
    • Develop partnerships and initiatives with IHE's to meet program goals.
    • Develop partnerships within the community for potential internship or shadowing opportunities.
    • Collaborate with the school site team to develop and implement a service plan to meet students' and families' specific needs and monitor progress of middle school & high school progression and college readiness, including review of completion of college preparatory coursework.
    • Collaborate with and provide support to GEAR UP teachers, administrators, counselors, and staff at school sites in accordance with federal regulations to fulfill the GEAR UP grant objectives, including meetings, presentations, surveys, training. information sessions, and other support activities.
    • Lead staff continuous improvement activities and other formative evaluation efforts
    • Recommend and implement modification to systems, policies, and procedures regarding GEAR UP activities and services at the school site.
    • Maintain student information, including files on academic and advisement progress and student participation in the program.
    • Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the GEAR UP grant including maintaining documentation files of all services, correspondence, reports, procedures, and presentations related to the GEAR UP program; develop outreach materials, including newsletters and social media sites.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups of varying ages and cultural background to disseminate information, resolve problems, and clarify solutions.
    • Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information where judgment and discretion are essential.
    • Ensure confidentiality of all program records and other sensitive information.
    • Provide support with internal and external GEAR UP organizational communications.
    OTHER FUNCTIONS
    • Represent the GEAR UP programs at university functions and at statewide and national meetings, as necessary.
    • Attends relevant national, regional, and local professional development conferences, workshops and seminars.
    • Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service within the department and the campus community.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • General knowledge of the principles, practices and strategies currently used in improving access and retention support to low-income and educationally disadvantaged students
    • General knowledge of A-G articulation and college requirements
    • Ability to gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews; ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports
    • Ability to develop student support programs and activities related to assigned areas of responsibility
    • Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged in sensitive situations
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, student organizations, and other private and public agencies
    • Ability to work effectively and interdependently in a diverse school environment
    • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and school policies and regulations pertaining to academic achievement
    • Ability to coordinate and oversee large groups of students especially on a field trip, excursion, or after-school program
    • Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning academic pathway, work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements for program participants

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Education and Experience:
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major coursework in education, counseling or related field AND three (3) years of professional experience in a student support program at a secondary and/or post-secondary level.
    • A master's degree or advanced coursework in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or directly related field may be substituted for two (2) year of the required experience
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish. A working knowledge of best practices in K-12 and higher education and academic counseling theories.
    • An understanding and analysis of various challenges that impact first-generation college students and low-income students and how to assist these students to college graduation.
    • Teaching credential (current or renewable)
    • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence. Strong leadership, teambuilding, and group facilitation skills. Any amount of proven work experience in a GEAR UP/TRIO Outreach Program.

    The monthly salary range for this position is $5547-$5980. Classification: Grade 6, Management. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
