Example of Duties

Under general supervision, performs technical work in the enforcement of state and local zoning codes in the County's geographical areas. An employee of this class is primarily responsible for performing professional and technical work in an assigned area of the Community Development Department. Focus areas may be related to current and/or long-range planning related to land use, development, plan review, and/or technical analysis. This position may also provide staff support to County Planning Board and Board of Commissioners. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, Community Development.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma; At least 3 years' experience in administrative procedures and practices; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
NC Certification of Zoning Official (NCAZO) as issued by UNC School of Government required upon hire.
Valid North Carolina driver's license required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver's license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
