The Johns Hopkins Poverty and Inequality Research Lab (PIRL) is looking for
_Research Assistant_ to conduct qualitative data collection for a Michigan-based study.

The Research Assistant will have the opportunity to conduct interviews, receive training from an expert in the field, gain experience on a large-scale research study, and work closely with the research team.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct indepth interviews with collegeaged students in Michigan.
  • Follow proper Institutional Review Board procedures for obtaining consent from participants in the research study.
  • Write field notes summarizing the main points of each interview.
  • Manage the paperwork and documentation necessary for securely storing and organizing respondent data.
  • Interviews are conducted at the convenience of respondents; consequently, work hours need to be highly flexible, and evening and weekend work will occasionally be required.
  • May conduct interviews independently, sometimes with the assistance of an additional interviewer.
  • Participates in team meetings, but most of the activities associated with the position (recruitment, paperwork following the interview, fieldnotes, data entry) will be performed independently.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications

  • Ability to record virtual interviews via computer/recorder as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with interviewing or qualitative data collection.
  • Have or pursuing graduatelevel education in sociology, education, or a related field.
