The Nature Bonds Program is a holistic approach to leverage debt refinancing for effective, durable conservation and climate action.

We work with governments to help them refinance debt and generate new funding to invest in conservation, and in climate mitigation and adaptation measures.

The Greening Sovereign Debt (GSD) initiative, a workstream of the Nature Bonds Program, seeks to accelerate the use of Nature Bonds projects by influencing the policies and practices of international financial institutions and borrower and lender countries.

GSD intends to transform the $9 trillion developing country sovereign debt market into a vehicle to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, nature-positive economies via our debt refinancing for nature and climate model.

To achieve this, GSD focuses on influencing Multilateral Development Banks and Bilateral lenders to increase credit enhancement, enhancing the capacity of developing governments to do Nature Bonds projects, and influencing the IMF and credit rating agencies to incorporate nature and climate in their Debt Sustainability Analysis and rating methodologies.
