Village for Vets fills critical gaps in services for homeless and at-risk veterans in greater Los Angeles on their journey to independence.

Through programs providing meals, emergency grants, support for basic needs, social support, and links to additional services, Village for Vets helps ensure Los Angeles' homeless and at-risk veterans do not fall through the cracks.


POSITION OVERVIEW:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate and uptodate financial records using QuickBooks Online.
  • Record financial transactions, including purchases, contribution receipts, and payments.
  • Ensure proper classification and coding of transactions, including expense allocations to various classes.
  • Weekly expense reports to management for grantrelated invoices
  • Regular expense reports by client to management
  • Monthend and yearend closing entries
  • Assist Controller with supporting documentation for independent, single, and grant audits.
  • Ad hoc projects, reconciliations, and/or reporting
Payroll Processing

  • Process 2 sets of semimonthly payroll runs for salaried and hourly staff.
  • Ensure timesheets are submitted and approved on time, prior to payroll processing deadlines; send reminders to staff
  • Enter staff payroll details in payroll app.
  • Ad hoc payroll adjustments and reporting
  • Monthend and yearend payroll accrual entries
Reconciliations

  • Reconcile bank statements with general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Reconcile CRM revenue reports with general ledger accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
Accounts Payables

  • Process invoices and receipts promptly.
  • Monitor accounts payables to ensure timely payments.
  • Ensure all documentation for all invoice payments and credit card charges is submitted.
  • Audit of payment request submissions related to federal grant expenditures and prompt followup of any missing documentation.
Communication

  • Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication, followup, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting practices.
  • Experience with federal grant or general grant accounting.

Starting compensation includes a competitive salary dependent on experience.
