Job Description:

As part of the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD), the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) are being researched in cooperation with national and international institutions. This includes the management and processing of large, distributed data and the methods of machine learning.

At the Distributed Systems and Operating Systems department of Prof.

Odej Kao, new methods for scalable, distributed processing of large data sets will be developed and empirically evaluated in this project.

Special attention will be paid to performance modeling and continuous optimization of data processing systems that operate in heterogeneous environments and with different data.

The goal is to capture central properties of constantly changing execution environments and to appropriately respond to changes (such as failures) in order to ensure data processing within given quality requirements as much as possible.

The developed methods will be validated in the context of relevant open-source systems. The research results will be published in publications and open-source software. The position also offers the opportunity for a doctoral degree.

Expected Qualifications:

Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in computer science with a focus on parallel and distributed systems, cloud computing, and machine learning. Ideally, the applicant has good knowledge
