Job Title: Post Bachelor Research Associate

Company: Human Centered Computing Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Responsibilities:
The Human Centered Computing group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is looking for a Post Bachelor Research Associate to join their Immersive Computing team. This team focuses on developing and utilizing 3D visualization tools along with virtual and augmented reality technology for various projects. This role involves creating training environments, designing hardware interfaces, and crafting engaging applications and games from the ground up, requiring a blend of creativity and problem-solving skills at every step.
We need someone versatile, motivated, and a self-starter, eager to expand their skill set within a dynamic team environment. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in 3D modeling, artistry, and a keen interest in UI/UX development.
Tasks include working on cutting-edge technologies in innovative ways, so critical thinking and creativity are key. The role demands someone highly responsible with exceptional attention to detail, able to work both collaboratively and independently, manage competing priorities, and find effective solutions to challenges.
Sample Projects:

Create virtual reality environments for safe training experiences.
Develop communication tools using mixed reality for technology assessments at nuclear sites.
Improve remote engagements with interactive virtual twins and real-time 3D object streaming.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Recent Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in 3D assets development and animation using tools like Blender or Maya.
Proficiency in Game Engines like Unity/Unreal/Godot and knowledge of C# or C++.
Interest in User Interface and User Experience design.
Experience in mobile platform development.
Familiarity with versioning tools such as Bitbucket or Github.

Additional Information

This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain federal security clearance.
Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship
Background Investigation: Federal background check and eligibility for classified access.
Drug Testing: Pre-employment and random drug testing. Non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 consecutive months.
Applicants must demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs for 12 months before U.S. Department of Energy security clearance processing.
Testing Designated Position

This role is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) requiring pre-employment and random drug testing. Compliance with the Controlled Substances Act and PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
