About the Role:

As Director of Field Operations you will:

In the near term you will oversee an in-house team of foresters and field staff, as well as external contractors. You will be responsible for timely data collection, safety in the field and overall cost management.
  • Ensure robust operational planning. This includes overseeing the inventory of robots to ensure appropriate availability of robots for project work. As we scale, you will need to lead implementation of improved systems for operational planning and inventory management.
  • Establish critical feedback loops between our field operations and other teams. Whether it is feedback on performance of our hardware or our AI models effectively collecting and addressing feedback from the field is critical to Treeswift's overall success.
  • Be prepared to tackle new challenges as they arise Whether it be future international deployment or customers operating our robots we are looking for someone flexible to deploy their strength in operations creatively to new challenges.

This role requires deep people management experience, ideally with teams based remotely and often in the field, meticulous organizational skills, and ability to efficiently collaborate and make decisions quickly with your counterparts in leadership.

  • Has built, owned, and run hiring pipelines to staff Field Operations teams
  • Has Forestry or relevant adjacent experience (i.e. vegetation management, wildfire, environmental science etc )
  • Has experience in inventory management and capacity planning
  • Has a bias toward action, values experimentation, and is more interested in finding the right answer than being right
  • Values truthful, direct feedback, even when it can feel uncomfortable
  • Is a driven selfstarter; you don't wait to be told what to do but rather look around, spot problems and opportunities, and share ideas you've brainstormed
  • Is flexible and capable of doing many things (versus just one thing); our most successful employees wear multiple hats and are willing to work on a wide scope of responsibilities

What We're Looking For in You

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Supervisory experience in a field operations environment
  • Experience in administering processes and policies as they relate to: safety, attendance, performance work rules and code of conduct.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain relationships at all levels within the organization
  • You have exceptional attention to detail and project management skills

What We Value

  • Mission before team, team before self. This means that we value low ego team members who focus on working towards the best outcomes for the customer and the business, regardless of who gets the credit.
  • Seeking the truth.
  • Never being complacent. Diagnosing challenges and creatively solving big problems. Comfort with radically rethinking and reshaping how things are done today.
  • Direct feedback. Feedback is a gift and always delivered with positive intent.
  • Owners mindset. If you see an opportunity for improvement, run with it. We believe that good ideas can come from anywhere, no matter your role.
