The Director of Cultural Events is responsible for coordination of special projects on behalf of the City of Lake Charles including overseeing the operations and functions at the Historic 1911 Building and Central School.

Projects may include conferences, City-sponsored festivals and other events as directed by the Mayor. These projects may be of a short-term or long-term nature. Creation of partnerships and on-going programs benefiting the community are also important elements of this position. These partnerships will not exclusively, but especially, focus on private entities, other public agencies, and non-profits.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee the Operations of Historic 1911 Building and monitoring of Events at Central school and monitoring of management at Central School.
  • Responsible for developing at Events at the 1911 Building and throughout the community to enhance the Arts and Cultural events within the City.
  • Customer service support interaction and problem solving for citizens as required.
  • Event planning this includes any program deemed necessary by the Mayor. Examples of this type of planning are concerts in City parks, grand openings of City facilities, special event programming for youth, etc.
  • Project creation and management this includes ongoing projects such Red White Blue and You, Downtown at Sundown, Light up the Lake Christmas Festival, etc. as well as new programs approved by the Mayor.
  • Developing new events surrounding the promotion of arts and culture or carrying out management of new events assigned by the Mayor.
  • Manage and Oversee the digital content creation for 1911 Historic City Hall, Central School, and events planned at these facilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervise employees at the 1911 Building and coordination with management of Central School. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Interested applicants should have a Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related experience.


Pay:
$48, $55,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
