Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin is a nonprofit organization and team of professionals and volunteers, dedicated to the mission of restoring the gift of sight through recovery, transplantation and education.

Our ultimate goal is to improve people's quality of life through the gift of sight.

Wednesday through Sunday schedule. Weekends are required.


Wednesday - Friday: 12pm - 8pm

Saturday - Sunday: 10am - 6pm

Position Objective:


This position is responsible for but not limited to, inventory control management of operational supplies, laboratory procedures, tissue check-in and evaluations, blood packaging and distribution functions.


Essential Duties of the Position:


  • Perform tissue evaluations - Slit lamp, specular microscopy, OCT
  • Prepare documentation of lab findings by collecting, analyzing, and documenting serology results and donor information
  • Packaging and distributing eligible tissue for transplant, research and education.
  • Ensure that all laboratory/quality control activities performed are documented in a thorough, accurate and professional manner
  • Manage inventory tracking system (BTM)
  • Analyze supply levels to anticipate inventory problem and shortages
  • Order and maintain supply levels for uninterrupted operation
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing professional publications
  • Foster a spirit of cooperation with co-workers
  • Establish and maintain effective and positive communications with all LEBW staff
  • Scheduled work on weekends and holidays is required
  • Perform receipt and inspection of critical and non-critical lab and recovery supplies
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by complying with rules and regulations
  • Adhere to infection control and hazardous waste policies and procedures
  • Clean, maintain and perform scheduled maintenance of lab equipment
  • Must maintain confidentiality and integrity of all donor-related information and business practices
  • Contribute to quality initiatives by participating in quality improvement programs
  • Document statistical data
  • Adhere to quality control policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties/tasks as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:


  • HS Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting (EMT/Paramedics, ER technicians, ophthalmology technicians, etc.) or eye bank setting preferred.
  • Expertise, skills, and knowledge of ophthalmology terminology or eye bank procedures is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to Perform Essential Functions:

  • Positive attitude toward organ, eye, and tissue donation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skills and knowledge in ophthalmology or eye bank procedures
  • Ability to use microscope and binocular vision
  • Knowledge of EBAA, FDA, or AATB requirements a plus
  • Ability to reason independently and work with mínimal guidance
  • Posses excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to pivot and adapt to changing standards and requirements
  • Knowledge of human anatomy preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude a plus
  • Experience in scientific or medical field
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • High School/GED degree required
  • Twoyear degree or more in Physical or Life Science or Healthcare a plus

Physical/Environmental Demands of the Position:


  • Physical Activities - sitting and standing for extended periods of time, reaching, grasping, bending
  • Level of Physical Requirements - moderate work. Must be able to lift 50 pounds independently
  • Environmental Conditions - Laboratory
  • Exposure to computers, cell phones, and other office equipment. Exposure to cornea preservation media and other recovery supplies and reagents.

Pay:
From $52,000.00 per year
