Summary

The Operations Lead provides leadership, support and mentoring of the Operations Technicians and ensures that all issues are resolved and reported in a timely manner.
Primary Responsibilities
· Ability to deal with concurrent issues, escalations or multiple requests while working under a dynamic and high-pressure environment.
· Provide quality, timely and accurate support of any issues within defined areas of responsibility while observing that the team remains compliant within customer SLAs and internal SLOs.
· Responsible for ensuring all scheduled tasks and work processes are completed in a timely manner.
· Ensure the team is properly reporting customer billable requests.
· Follow all global policies and procedures. Effectively escalate events in a timely manner to the appropriate team while successfully mitigating risk.
· Thoroughly document all work within a ticket system in support of customer requests and execution of installation tasks. Ensure all other documentation is updated and maintained as directed by Management.
· Work directly with colocation customers to isolate and troubleshoot issues as necessary.
· Responsible for the installation and troubleshooting of all copper and fiber cross connects and run cables throughout a data center.
· Layer 1 cable testing, including light testing, continuity – Transmit/Receive, DB Loss Level, head-to-head testing. Terminate and test cabling using various connectors (LC/SC, RJ45).
· Manage and prepare incoming and outgoing customer tape backups/rotations and offsite transfers.
· Assume monitoring role for all critical systems utilizing Building Monitoring System. Provide visibility and support to the Facilities Team.
· Perform and execute installation/de-installation projects that would include the racking and stacking, dressing cabling and labeling. Work efforts may require work with ladders and various hand tools.
· Employee may be assigned to work overtime depending on workload requirements.
· Lifting of hardware equipment required up to and in excess of 50 pounds. Standing, bending and kneeling as needed to perform this task. Server lifts can be utilized where applicable.
· Plan and coordinate the training and development of Operations Technicians.
· Perform additional/other duties as assigned such as (but not limited to): Physical Security including, monitoring and controlling access to the Data Center, cleanliness and appearance of raised floor (including physical clean-up) and shipping/receiving duties.
Experience & Qualifications
· College degree preferred, but not required.
· 4+ years of operational and technical experience in a data center environment required.
· IT Certifications and/or familiarity with BICSI is desired.
· Ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues.
· Detail oriented to manage multiple priorities effectively.
· Extensive knowledge and experience with the installation, testing and terminating of copper, fiber (multi & single mode) and coaxial cable.
· Demonstrates understanding of all OSI layers, TCP/IP model and associated protocols such as DNS.
· Highly effective at troubleshooting Layer 1-3 issues (physical, data link and network layers).
· Thorough understanding of TIA/EIA-568 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet fundamentals.
· UNIX/Windows operating system navigation, general commands and system programs/processes knowledge and experience.
· Security clearance via Government or other agency background check may be required for customer support.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
· Strong team player.
