The position of Assistant Teacher includes assisting the Lead Teacher in fostering an environment to promote

_Lead teachers will prepare lesson plans that are engaging and interactive to the age group they are teaching.


Duties

Essential Duties and Functions:


  • Day to Day Caretaker
  • Assist in creating a safe and welcoming environment for children in your care
  • Change children?s diapers every two hours or more often as needed.
  • Take potty-trained children to the restroom on an as-needed basis.
  • Comfort children that are struggling with any aspects of their self-regulation?s ability (feelings sad, angry, hurt etc.)
  • Report any injuries to the director immediately and provide care according to your ability.
  • Assist children in falling asleep ? this may include rubbing their backs, rocking or playing _quiet_ music.
  • Education and Behavior Management
  • Assist the lead teacher in executing the lesson plans they have prepared
  • Help to create an environment that fosters learning through play by having activities available to children all day, every day.
  • Use appropriate, positive behavior management techniques for children in care
  • Help to decorate room and create spaces/boards that represent the themes of curriculum
  • Refrain from negative discipline, yelling, or any type of corporal punishment. This is a zero-tolerance policy and failing to comply with result in immediate termination
  • Training/Compliance
  • Follow policy, procedures and child care licensing rules
  • Maintain required training hours (on and off sited)
  • Seek out additional training in areas of interest/need
  • Refrain from using your cellphone in classrooms
  • Maintaining Procedures
  • Maintain appropriate rations in each classroom during the morning hours and/or evening hours
  • Follow procedures in emergency handbook if an emergency were to arise
  • Keep doors locked at all times and follow security procedures as outlined in training.
  • Be comfortable checking IDs for any unknown guests and follow sign in/out procedure.
  • Follow all Policy & Procedures that were reviewed with you during training.
  • Familiarizing yourself with the State of New Hampshire Childcare Licensing Book.

Essential qualifications:

  • Be at least 16 years of age; and
  • Work with children only under the direct supervision and observation of a staff person who meets at least the minimum qualifications of an associate teacher.
  • Notwithstanding above, assistant teachers shall only be alone with a child or group of children if the following conditions are met:
  • The center director has approved the specific assistant teacher to do this, with approval documented in the employee?s file;
  • The employee has been deemed eligible to work pursuant to RSA 170E:7, III.
  • The employee has at least 3 months of experience at the program.
  • The employee has completed the required trainings pursuant to He-C a); and
  • The specific activities that the assistant teacher may be alone with children include:
  • Walking children:
  • To or from a bathroom.
  • To or from receiving first aid treatment.
  • To or from a bus stop; and
  • From one classroom or area to another within the licensed premises.
  • Supervising an ill child while waiting for pickup by a parent.
  • Supervising a group of children for up to 5 minutes when other child care personnel leave the classroom to do a task that cannot be completed by the assistant teacher; or
  • Supervising any children that may otherwise be without direct staff supervision pursuant to HE-C
