Summary:


The Sustainability Coordinator position is multifaceted and collaborative, helping to guarantee that RUSH upholds environmental standards and takes bold steps towards decreasing our environmental footprint as part of our growing Environmental Sustainability (ES) Team.

It is a role that enables somebody to make a real difference in the way RUSH impacts the environment through supporting ES Department strategies that reduce ecological damage, promote long-term sustainability, and improve human health.

Working alongside the Sustainability Manager and our HSM Intern(s) on a growing team, the Sustainability Coordinator supports a wide variety of projects around the development, implementation, promotion, and active monitoring of climate mitigation, waste reduction, utilities efficiency, sustainable procurement, and engagement/education strategies at RUSH.

Exemplifies the RUSH mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with RUSH policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
Two years of environmental/sustainability experience preferred.
Savvy with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
Must be a reflective, strategic thinker and able to come up with solutions that can solve complex problems.
Has the ability to plan, document progress, prioritize and track multiple project deadlines.

Broad knowledge and appreciation of the key aspects of environmental sustainability, with particular emphasis on life sciences and the associated business impacts.

Strong written, verbal communication Data collection, organization, and analysis skills.
Strong desire to make a positive impact on human, community, and planetary health.
Proven changemaker with the ability to engage a diverse cross section of stakeholders in action.
Healthcare experience preferred.


Responsibilities:

Collect, organize, and analyze a wide variety of data streams for regular tracking and annual ES data submissions.
Support and continuously improve a wide variety of existing projects on campus across our 5 pillars of impact.
Develop and implement creative and impactful projects with diverse stakeholder teams across campus.
Develop training materials and support communications/education efforts with student, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Support the assessment of current practices and identification of opportunities for sustainability improvement.
Support recurring ES Team working group meetings (Recycling Task Force, Utilities Efficiency, Sustainable Procurement, etc).
Support the development of narratives and newsletter pieces for ES Team work to engage and educate others.
Support the improvement and expansion of our reduction, reuse, reprocess, rot, and recycling programs across campus.
Support the development of campus sustainability plans.
