Founded in 1977, CASA is the official 501c3 domestic violence center based in Pinellas County, FL.

We operate the area's 24-hour hotline and emergency shelter; non-residential programs, such as support groups, economic empowerment and legal advocacy; Child Protective Investigative Team support; community and corporate training; and the CASA Peacemakers anti-bullying and healthy relationship school curriculum.


Position Title:
Child Welfare Advocate


Reports To:
Child Welfare Manager


Major Functions:
Provide direct services to survivors and children impacted by domestic violence.

Provide support to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) Child Protection Investigation Division (CPID) and other Child Welfare Agencies to increase family safety and to reduce the number of out-of-home child placements due to domestic violence.

All employees of Community Action Stops Abuse are considered "essential" and as such may be required to remain onsite and/or required to assist during emergencies and other critical times


Illustrative Duties:


  • Provide support and case consultations to Child Protective Investigators (CPI's) on domestic violence cases.
  • Provide direct advocacy services to survivors and children impacted by domestic violence.
  • Attend criminal, civil, or dependency court with survivors or on their behalf (at their request) as needed.
  • Carry an assigned caseload and meet with participants on a regular basis to provide resources, advocacy, and ongoing safety planning.
  • Assist survivors with completing the injunction packet.
  • Assist survivors with the victim compensation and address confidentiality program as needed.
  • Coordinate transportation for survivors to get to court as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the State Attorney Office, the Clerk of the Courts, Law Enforcement organizations, Child Protection, and all other community partners to enhance victim safety and perpetrator accountability.
  • Complete all required documents, paperwork, reports, and data entry in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate support groups and empowermentbased workshops.\
  • Participate in quarterly statewide project calls.
  • Participate in case staffings and case transfer staffings.
  • Conduct trainings for CPI and other local steak holders on domestic violence related topics and maintain a record of signin sheets, agendas, and evaluations per the grant requirement.
  • Assist with training and assisting CASA volunteers and interns.
  • Conduct Quarterly Child Welfare meetings per grant requirement.
  • Assist other CASA program areas when requested by your supervisor.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Two years of college education
    or 2 years ofequivalent related work, educational, volunteer, or life experience preferred
    or a minimum of oneyear proven success in a current CASA direct service position.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or other social service experience preferred.
  • Have the ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a team member
  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to maintain working relationships with other agencies.
  • Advanced communication skills, written and oral, and capable of addressing small and large audiences.
  • Be willing to drive agency vehicles.
  • Possess a valid Florida State Driver's License to be verified on an annual basis.
  • Possess the ability to climb stairs and lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Agree to participate in a background check upon employment.

Pay:
$ $19.00 per hour
