Description

The Behavior Coach will visit classrooms to check on students, promote positive behavior, and acknowledge students who are meeting expectations.

He/she will proactively check-in with students who have behavioral challenges to set them up for success.


The Behavior Coach will design and implement behavior intervention plans as needed with support from the School's behavior consultants (School Counselor, Social worker and teachers), and/or the grade band Director as needed.

For special education students with IEPs, the Behavior Coach will collaborate with Inclusion Managers and support with creating behavior intervention plans as needed.


The Behavior Coach will be the first point of contact if a student is in crisis or engaged in major incidents (aggressive behavior, bullying, physically harming self or others, in a dangerous situation, in possession of harmful objects that pose a danger to self or others).


About CMIPCS
CMIPCS is a tuition-free school located in NW Washington, DC, authorized to serve students from preschool through 8th grade. Now in its eleventh year of operation, CMI serves 580 students in Preschool (3 year olds) through 8th grade. Beginning this school year, CMI expanded to include two 6th-grade classes, marking the opening of its new Middle School. Two sections of 7th grade were added in with 2 classes of 8th being offered in the subsequent year.

Responsibilities:


  • Supports the implementation of the School's philosophy and vision based of Conscious Discipline
  • Supports the implementation of schoolwide positive behavioral supports.
  • Supports in the creation of informal behavior plans for students
  • Assists staff in defining and analyzing behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement, teaching new behavior, implementing strategies for promoting positive behavior, and identifying antecedents. (consults)
  • Facilitates team meetings with the identified student's teachers and parents to plan positive behavioral support as needed.
  • Observes and provides coaching to teachers and/or global school community, on issues such as: tier 1 and tier 2 behavioral strategies, crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect the development and implementation of interventions.
  • Creates opportunities that promote higherorder thinking and problemsolving as well as individual skills, knowledge, and understandings.
  • Assists students in assessing their own work and behavior.
  • Provides recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
  • Works cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support in their classrooms.
  • Continually supervises students to ensure a safe, nonthreatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.
  • Conducts conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions
  • Consults with school counselor, behavior consultant, and program leaders.
  • Attends professional development opportunities to maintain a high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of incentives and student culture related functions of the school (safety patrol etc)
  • Responds to safety related crisis and provides thorough follow up, paired with detailed documentation of interventions
