The role of a Scheduling and Administrative Coordinator is pivotal in supporting physicians of a sub-specialty and other members of the clinic. This individual serves as a liaison between the physician and administration, departments within the organization, patients, attorneys, and the public in general.
Key responsibilities include arranging surgeries and diagnostic tests at area hospitals and diagnostic facilities based on physician/patient preferences and insurance plan requirements. The coordinator also schedules patient education and medical clearance appointments as needed, while handling other assigned duties related to patient flow or physician requests.
To excel in this position, one must possess certain skills and qualifications. These include knowledge of medical terminology, skill in telephone procedure, and understanding of the interrelationship of Clinical Services department. Additionally, basic math calculations are essential for accurate scheduling and record-keeping. A high school diploma is required, with an associate or bachelor's degree preferred. At least one year of related experience and training is necessary, with equivalent combinations of training and education being considered.
A minimum of two years' experience in medical transcription, along with knowledge of current medical terminology, can be advantageous. Executive level assistance experience is also preferred, particularly those with three to five years of experience. One to two years' experience in a medical office or hospital environment is also desirable.
