The City of Surprise Parks & Recreation Department is searching for a highly motivated individual with a passion for swim lessons, swim teams and swim lesson instructor training to be a part of a dedicated team looking to engage and create an impact in our community. The Aquatics Specialist will be an integral part of an organization whose primary concern is to assist with leading and development of aquatics programming and staff with an emphasis in swim lessons, swim lesson instructor training, as well as swim teams. Program responsibilities may include assistance with planning and executing lifeguard/swim instructor certification classes, swim lessons, water aerobics, staff development, aquatic facility operations, scheduling, providing exceptional customer service, manage day to day operations onsite at our city pools, as well, as assisting with special events. The
key objective of this position is to offer quality aquatic and recreational experiences to enrich and complement all ages and abilities of our growing community.

SUMMARY

Incumbents assist with the planning, implementation and coordination of a wide variety of recreation activities and programs and community special events.

Responsibilities include supervising facilities or specific programs or activities, customer service, problem-solving, routine day-to-day operations and reports, scheduling entertainment, setting up events/programs, inventory, and rule adjudication.

Incumbents may be assigned as cashier to receive checks and cash, process payments, and procure supplies and services. Incumbents oversee part-time staff and volunteers.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED, and two years of related recreation experience. Additional education cannot be substituted for the required experience. The education requirement can be substituted with related recreation experience on a year for year basis.

CERTIFICATIONS
Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona Driver License.

Positions that work in licensed programs require certification in Community Infant, Child, Adult CPR, and First Aid within six months of hire.
