    What We Are Looking For:
    This position is responsible for managing the accounting operations of the Corporate Finance department.

    This includes managing operations of the premium administration system, providing technical guidance and development of staff, and handling complex departmental matters.

    In addition to monthly close activities, the Accounting Operations Manager will assist with completion and monitoring of internal control activities.

    This role will report to the VP, controller and is required to be onsite 3 days a week in the Durham, NC office.


    What You Will Do:

    • Manage staff to accomplish financial management and ongoing efficiency of departmental functions in areas such as: premium accounting close and performing internal controls.
    • Responsible for reviewing and approving of journal entries and account reconciliations. Oversee the processing and recording of monthly transactions within the General Ledger. Oversee compilation, summary, review and analysis of information for consistency and reasonableness.
    • Communicate and coordinate with other areas of the Company to garner explanation and analysis associated with the results reported in the financial statements.
    • Participate in Corporate Finance planning meetings.
    • Recognize systems problems and recommends system solutions/enhancements to enhance operational efficiency.
    • Comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, Compliance Program policies and other applicable corporate and departmental policies.
    • Analyze research and implement resolution of complex or sensitive operational issues.
    • Prepare, review and implement reports of departmental production. Recommend and ensure effective implementation of procedures, programs and standards.
    • Select and train department supervisors; provide ongoing training and support as necessary.
    • Develop performance objectives for management and staff and provides timely feedback on performance.
    • Conduct performance appraisal and review department work on an ongoing basis, to ensure quality control of the departmental functions.
    • Assign personnel and schedules workflow to facilitate and ensure the ongoing efficiency of departmental functioning.
    • Respond to internal and external questions regarding company systems and/or reporting and keeps management informed, accordingly.
    • Maintain communication with management regarding development within areas of assigned responsibilities and perform special projects as required or requested.
    • Maintain complete confidentiality of company business.
    • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, customers, etc.

    Requirements

    What We Require:

    • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or 4 years financial services or insurance accounting and financial management experience OR 9 year's financial services or insurance accounting and financial management experience.
    • Knowledge of accounting operations, processes and systems.
    • Experience with life insurance accounting and administration processes and systems.
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Experience with administrative and office operations and procedures in all operating areas of Company.
    • PC proficiency to include Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
    • CPA preferred.
    • Insurance Industry designation(s) preferred.
    • Knowledge of statutory accounting theory and practical application preferred.
