Description

Function:

The Director of Finance and Administration manages a range of operational and financial/business services.

These services may include several functional areas as assigned:


Operations:

  • Supervise and support the work of the Administrative staff;

Finance/Business:

  • Budget and fiscal administration;
  • General accounting management, including maintenance of internal and accounting controls;
  • Oversees cash receipts, purchasing, and accounts payable;
  • Risk management;
  • Grant accounting;
  • Payroll and management of independent contractors;
  • Human Resources administration and recordkeeping.

Specific Responsibilities:


Finance/Business:


  • Researching and developing forecasts of Seamark Ranch's financial needs;
  • Developing fiscally sound annual and long range operating and capital budgets;
  • Providing advice and recommendations to the Executive Director and others as necessary/required on longrange plans, forecasts and strategies;
  • Managing Seamark Ranch's operating and capital budgets, analyzing expenditures and assuring that they comply with budgetary constraints;
  • Managing Seamark Ranch's accounting systems involving a full range of accounting services such as general accounting, fixed asset accounting, receipts and which includes payroll accounting and operation;
  • Developing and installing accounting procedures and policies in accordance with GAAP;
  • Adapting and utilizing Seamark Ranch's computerized accounting system;
  • Preparing periodic financial statements and reports to the Board, including specialized statements required by federal and state agencies and grant funding organizations;
  • Providing guidance to Seamark Ranch's Executive Director on interpretation of financial data, analysis of trends and appropriate administrative actions;
  • Analyzing Seamark Ranch's risk exposure and securing appropriate insurance or developing sound selfinsurance programs;
  • Selecting vendors and reassessing those choices on an ongoing basis;
  • Recruiting and selecting appropriately qualified staff for Seamark Ranch's accounting, finance and administrative services within the constraints of fiscal and compensation policy;
  • Providing for training and development of assigned staff to assure their current and continuing competencies in their respective fields;
  • Reviewing and evaluating performance of assigned staff, providing guidance and coaching where needed, and conducting constructive performance reviews with staff;
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, providing fair and effective administration of the human resource and labor policies. Developing controls and methods for assuring fiscal and financial integrity;
  • Monitoring budget and financial performance and making appropriate tests to determine fiscal and financial integrity of operations;
  • Initiating needed corrective action when fiscal and financial results fail to meet standards.

Qualifications/Experience:


  • CPA license or advanced degree in a financial or accounting field.
  • Minimum five (5) years seniorlevel experience in all aspects of accounting/financial management, including internal controls, and purchasing. Demonstrated track record of successfully leading financial operations, including knowledge/experience within the nonprofit environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); local, state, and federal laws and regulations; grant regulations and requirements; and accounting and budgetary systems, particularly as they relate to nonprofit institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and negotiate contracts/legal documents with attorneys, funders; contractors and local, state, and federal entities.
  • Demonstrated problem solver able to work effectively in a multifaceted work environment with numerous simultaneous requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex financial data to a nonfinancially trained audience and foster effective working relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Must be a strategic thinker capable of devising sound ways to address the organization's current and future financial challenges.
