Overview:
We are looking for a full-time pharmacy assistant to focus on prior authorization and financial assistance. Monday - Friday, daytime schedule (no holidays).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • For Medicare insurance, help determine coordination of benefits to properly bill eligible medications; Medicare part D & Medicare Part A/B.
  • Keeps current on all Medicare changes and communicates with applicable staff.
  • Assist with resolving patient billing complaints i.e., annual Medicare deductible.
  • Maintain accountability for daytoday patient reimbursement activities, workload and overall workflow.
  • Assists patients and/or their responsible parties with questions regarding billings.
  • Work on patient's behalf to identify and assess reimbursement coverage options for those with insurance and to coordinate and/or investigate financial options for those without insurance.
  • Perform various actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers.
  • Utilizing CoverMyMeds to facilitate the process of obtaining prior authorization from third party payers in order to maximize patients' access to treatment.
  • Completes manufacturer assistance forms for financial assistance when required.
  • Monitor, followup with and record all insurance reauthorizations required by payers to help ensure compliance and continuity of treatment.
  • Help support the appeal process to overturn insurance denials and/or benefit exclusions when needed.
  • Analyze patient medical records to determine proper diagnosis and procedure codes, as well as other required information for patients.
  • Works with physicians or health care professionals if patient information is unclear to accurately process Medicare Part B claims.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patients and medical professionals via phone or in person.
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
  • Must be able to type and work on a computer.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, administrator, or physicians

Knowledge and Skills:


  • General knowledge of inoffice dispensary laws, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of brand name drugs and their generic equivalents.
  • Knowledge of common medical terms/abbreviations and inoffice dispensary calculations.
  • Knowledge of insurance and thirdparty billing systems
  • Knowledge of medical safety standards to assist in manufacturing and working with pharmaceutical substances.
  • Knowledge of reviewing and completing Health Insurance Claim Form

Experience and Qualifications:


  • At least oneyear retail and/or inofficedispensary experience preferred.
  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • Associates Degree or Diploma Program/Certification from an accredited pharmacy technician training program required (National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board accreditation preferred).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


  • State of AZ pharmacy technician license. Required.
  • CPhT. Preferred.
