Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


  • Position is responsible for general diagnosis and repair of central temperature control systems (air and water heating and cooling) for all campus residential communities and Fraternity Row facilities. In addition, the position will diagnose and perform service repairs to gas burners in the renovated Fraternity Row facilities.

  • This position is responsible for providing supervision and technical support for HVAC mechanics, steamfitters, plumbers, electricians, and other workers within the Electro-Mechanical trade. This includes oversight and evaluation of daily work and planning and execution of reactive and preventative maintenance programs completed by inhouse crews throughout the year. Responsibilities will also include the assignment of crew activities, training, daily supervision, evaluation of the operations, and the performance of skilled and unskilled labor in the completion of scheduled maintenance and unscheduled tasks. The position is responsible for oversight of approximately 12 employees. This position is supervised by the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Manager. The mechanical, electric, and plumbing shop is part of a larger Facilities Maintenance unit and is responsible for approximately 5000 service requests annually.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:

High School Diploma or GED.


Experience:


Eight years progressively responsible experience in the trade(s) where assigned to include at least five years in a lead or supervisory capacity.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques of the trade(s) where assigned; of the OSHA regulations related to the trade(s) area.
  • Skill in the care and storage of equipment and supplies used in the area(s) where assigned; in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the trade(s) where assigned; in reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to supervise and train skilled and unskilled employees in assigned trade(s) work; to plan and organize maintenance work; to determine sufficiency of cost estimates prepared by others; to prepare specifications for tools, equipment, materials, and supplies; to prepare summaries and reports; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
