GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:


The Assistant Director of Professional Development is responsible for supporting the work of the Director of Professional Learning by working with constituent groups to identify, prioritize, and implement staff development needs as aligned with the adult learning theory and the ACPS Framework for Professional Learning.

The Assistant Director supports the coordination of professional learning for ACPS and assesses its efficacy continuously.

Additionally, the Assistant Director of Professional Learning supports the management of the division's instructional coaching model to provide supervision, guidance, support, and leadership to instructional coaches as they work with teachers to enhance teaching practices and improve student learning outcomes across ACPS.

The position serves as a resource to the school division's organizational development initiatives by collaborating to develop training and support programs for the Division's employees, conducting ongoing needs assessments, and evaluating the success, or lack thereof, of all Division professional learning/development endeavors.

The position will be required to work successfully with internal employees and outside vendors to translate organizational and departmental necessity into professional learning initiatives; successfully manage subordinate staff and prioritize multiple projects and initiatives; and maintain currency in the field.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Collaborates with school and central office leadership, professional development learning committees, and School Division employees to identify professional learning needs;
  • Collaborates with the Director of Professionals to utilizes the PDSA cycle to establish professional learning priorities based on VDOE and Division initiatives, needs assessments, student outcomes, and additional feedback, and updates the ACPS professional learning framework as warranted;
  • Coconstructs pragmatic and impactful strategies to address key organizational development needs by designing, implementing, and maintaining professional learning programs;
  • Supports the implementation of a comprehensive and systematic professional learning program for all Division employees;
  • Supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications plan to engage school division constituencies in professional learning activities;
  • Supports the development of new hire engagement through orientation and longterm onboarding programs, increasing the results of professional learning initiatives to employee selfefficacy and retention;
  • Researches, coordinates, develops, and designs instructorled and virtual learning offerings;
  • Supports the Director of Professional Learning in the management, preparation, and execution of learning programs by designing appropriate resources; such as course materials, guides, and training procedures;
  • Researches and identifies additional funding sources;
  • Manages the functionality, and utilization of professional learning management systems and websites;
  • Develops and maintains an annual calendar of professional learning events and programs;
  • Collaborates with the Director of Professional Learning, hires, develops, and supervises the Instructional Coaches;
  • Maintains currency in the field through research and participation in regional, state, and national professional development activities;
  • May represent the division in local, state, and national professional learning organizations;
