SUMMARY

The Field Technician is responsible for collecting data and conducting assessments in the field related to utilities infrastructure, such as fiber optics, electric, gas, and water.

Key responsibilities of the Field Technician may include conducting site surveys, documenting existing network infrastructure, assessing environmental conditions, and collecting data on utility poles and existing utilities.

This role plays a critical part in supporting the design and construction teams and requires proficiency in using various types of data collection tools and software to accurately record and report their findings, including GIS and applied technology methods.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collect data on existing utility infrastructure using GIS collection methods.
  • Measure, document, and take pictures of components and cables attached to utility poles.
  • Perform walkout surveys to plan construction methods and placement of new utilities.
  • Create maps using GIS, Google Earth, etc.
  • Assist with permitting submittal packages.
  • Complete modeling and structural analysis of utility poles.
  • Collaborate with managers, designers, and other professionals throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Travel, including overnight travel, will be required for this position.
  • A typical schedule will require 60% travel and 40% office related tasks.

Requirements:


  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Experience in the utilities industry, including Fiber Optics, Electric, Gas, or Water.
  • Joint Use knowledge including NESC Code and Makeready Engineering.
  • Data collection using ArcGIS Field Maps, ikeGPS, Katapult Pro, or similar programs.
  • Proficient with Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, and Google Earth.
  • Proficient with ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and other similar software.
