Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
  • Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Support other department personnel as required, may include preparing estimates in other disciplines.
  • May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Direct and plan activities of drafting and shop personnel involved in these managers' projects.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.

Job Specifications

  • Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems are essential.
  • Fouryear engineering degree or equivalent or four years filed supervisory or experience or display pertinent abilities and personal qualities required as determined by the President/CEO, plus experience//knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management required.
  • Two to five years estimating, controls and/or engineering experience relating to similar facility construction.
  • Knowledge of CONEST estimating software or ability to learn required.
  • Working knowledge or the ability to learn Outlook electronic mail.
  • Ability to perform against accelerated deadlines required.

Accountability and Measurement

  • Partner with others in the department to ensure accurate estimates are produced.

LANGUAGE SKILLS


Must have the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English, cooperate, and collaborate with multiple levels of customer, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors and suppliers, and other contractor organizations.
