  • Salary range: $77, $89, IMPORTANT NOTE:
  • NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
  • The Tax Audit and Enforcement/ Audit -Real Property Transfer Tax Unit has an excellent promotional opportunity available for an experienced and highly organized individual to serve as a City Tax Auditor Level 0
  • Level 4 City Tax Auditors would conduct independent examinations of the largest and most complex Real Property Transfer Tax cases.
  • Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Conduct independent examinations of the largest, most complex Real Property Transfer Tax returns and non-filers. Such work may include a combination of maintaining an inventory of difficult cases, auditing of the largest, most complex, diversified business organizations.
  • Perform independent research necessary to resolve complex tax issues.
  • Conduct presentations regarding recent tax developments, such as court cases, tax law and regulations, audit procedures, audit issues and techniques at Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Seminars.
  • Serve on various committees on behalf of the Office of Tax Audit.
  • Serve as team leader on audits of larger taxpayers with the most complex tax issues. Guide and advise a team of lowerlevel CTA's.
Minimum Qualifications1.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, with at least one course each in auditing, U.S.

taxation, advanced accounting, and cost accounting; or


  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, with at least one course each in auditing, U.S. taxation, advanced accounting, and cost accounting, and two years of full-time satisfactory tax-related auditing or tax accounting experience; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and 24 semester credits in accounting from an accredited college, including at least one course each in auditing, U.S. taxation, advanced accounting, and cost accounting, and four years of full-time satisfactory tax related auditing or tax accounting experience; or

SPECIAL NOTE:


To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, either one year of full-time satisfactory experience in Assignment Level I, or two years of full-time satisfactory tax-related auditing or tax accounting experience.


To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, either two years of full-time satisfactory experience in Assignment Level II, or three years of full-time satisfactory tax-related auditing or tax accounting experience.


To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, either one year of full-time satisfactory experience in Assignment Level III, or four years of full-time satisfactory tax-related auditing or tax accounting experience.


Preferred Skills- At least 4.5 years of field auditing experience, including at least 1 year as a City Tax Auditor Level 3 in the Department of Finance.

- At least 2 years of tax auditing experience in the Real Property Transfer Tax Unit. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Proficiency with MS Word and Excel. - Extensive knowledge and expertise of the Real Property Transfer Tax laws, regulations, audit guidelines and related court cases. - Strong organizational and leadership skills. - Experience and knowledge with the NYC Dept. of Finance's Policies and Procedures. - Experience and knowledge with the NYC Dept.
