What Your Job Will Be Like:

  • We are looking for a dedicated and energetic individual to join our Facilities Management team as a Facilities Technologist (Job Title Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Systems Technician) to directly support and / or oversee the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of Facilities Safety Systems such as fire alarm, fire suppression, and laboratory gas detection to ensure all work complies with relevant codes and regulations. Work may include programming; fire alarm control panels, and laboratory gas detection system control panels; support to Facilities Engineers and Facilities Maintenance, repair and/or replacement of non-functioning Facilities Safety System components, and technical review of Facilities Safety Systems design packages. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
  • On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Review blueprints, schematics, drawings for the purpose of determining efficient installation methods and ensure all work for new or upgraded Facilities Safety Systems complies with relevant codes and regulations
  • Coordinate with other trades/contractors/internal customers for the purpose of completing projects and work orders in an efficient manner
  • Install, test, program new Facilities Safety Systems and/or repair existing Facilities Safety Systems
  • Perform field inspections to ensure Facilities Safety Systems are installed according to Code prior to acceptance
  • Complete detailed inspection reports documenting issues/deficiencies
  • Assist Facilities Engineering in review and approval of architectural and fire sprinkler system drawings, engineering calculations (e.g., hydraulic, battery, voltage drop), and other design documents for new construction or modification of existing facilities
  • Review and approve impairment requests (e.g., fire alarm, fire sprinkler, fire suppression systems)
  • Support fire protection engineers to ensure facility fire and life safety is appropriately addressed in work planning and controls

Qualifications We Require:


  • High school diploma plus five years or more years of directly related experience; or combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Experience in inspection, testing and/or maintenance of fire protection / fire alarm systems.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license. (You will be required to provide proof of a valid driver's license if offered employment)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:


  • Knowledge and experience working on Siemens and Honeywell Fire Alarm Notifier systems
  • Active NICET certification and / or related NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) certification
  • Knowledgeable of fire safety codes and regulations, including NFPA 72, NEC, UL, and local codes.
  • Knowledgeable and/or experience with fire suppression systems (FM200, Halon, etc.) and ability to specify suppression system solutions for unique hazards.
  • Experience using software such as Maximo, ProjectWise, CIS, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Understanding of applicable federal laws, regulations, building and fire codes, executive orders, and DOE orders related to fire protection and highly protected risk concepts.
  • Working knowledge of the independent and interdependent relationship between applicable building codes, fire codes, and national consensus codes and standards.
  • Experience using and interpreting the CBC and its referenced codes and standards (e.g., NFPA) applicable to a diverse set of operations that include hazardous, industrial, business, assembly, and storage occupancies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with architects, engineers, developers, contractors and building owners in the interpretation and compliance with adopted building and fire codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with planning and completing projects.
