- Directly support both in-person and online sections of ENR/AEDE 2501 by assisting the lead instructors in the preparation, setup, and delivery of weekly laboratory activities for course sections.
- Leading synchronous online and in-person laboratory sessions under the guidance of the course instructor, including facilitating discussions, providing technical assistance, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
- Directly support online sections of ENR 3900 by assisting the lead instructors in the preparation, setup, and delivery of weekly activities for course sections.
- Assisting with logistic tasks including but not limited to creating dedicated course email, managing student communications via course announcements and email correspondence, and managing student documentation and requests from The Office of Student Life Disability Services (SLDS).
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and refine laboratory exercises, experiments, and demonstrations that align with course learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with other instructional aides associates and faculty members to coordinate course activities and ensure consistency in content delivery across sections.
- Assist with the creation of original or synthetic educational materials to be used as primary or recommended resources for student use.
- Assist with scholarly activities aimed at assessing, evaluating and improving sustainability education, including assisting with writing and presenting scholarly materials.
- Independently or with little guidance set-up and manage course content within the learning management system, collaboratively design or redesign courses for online delivery
- Consult on course development plans including assisting in the alignment of learning objectives to course assessments and effective learning activities and materials; develop activities and course structure within the learning management system.
- Advise students within the course and supervise graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate student instructional assistants that support the course.
- Identify additional course support needs by tracking course enrollment.
- Designing and leading course specific training each semester, designing and implementing communication plans, coordinating workload, and establishing expectations for course grading and office hours.

FAES | School of Environment and Natural ResourcesThis position offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the development of future sustainability leaders and gain hands-on teaching experience in a vibrant academic community. The Instructional Aides Associate supports instructors in the development, maintenance, organization, and implementation of instructional materials and technologies for the introductory course, , within the School of Environment and Natural Resources. The Instructional Aides Associate also will support instructional efforts for as well as scholarly efforts to assess and evaluate sustainability education across both courses. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and students to facilitate hands-on learning experiences and support the overall educational objectives of the course. The primary responsibility of the Instructional Aides Associate will be to collaborate with lead instructors on the development and delivery of weekly lab sessions that incorporate best practices in course design, pedagogy, educational technology use, and accessibility. Aides will also hold office hours to advise students enrolled in the course, and coordinate course grading and communication in addition to being a supervisor and mentor to the undergraduate and graduate students who are part of course support team.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a program related to sustainability, sustainable development, or sustainability science including environment and natural resources; agricultural, environmental and/or development economics; sustainability science; environmental science, community development, or equivalent combination of education/experience. Minimum 2 years of experience providing instructional assistance in a higher education context. Knowledge of foundational learning theories, principles and best practices, and technology integration for in-person, hybrid, and online courses. Prior experience utilizing a learning management system (LMS), such as Canvas. Experience and competence managing multiple projects and balancing competing priorities and deadlines. Demonstrated experience recruiting and supervising a team of student workers.
Minimum Desired Qualifications
Additional certification or degree in higher education, instructional design, learning technology, or related field or equivalent combination or education/ experience. A Master's degree in a sustainability-related field or social science training with a focus on the environment. 2-4 years of relevant experience. An understanding of the practical application of course design principles and methods. Application of quality assurance mechanisms in course design. Experience using and training others to use technological tools to enhance teaching. Experience working effectively, independently and as part of a team.
