Cathleen Stone Island Outward Bound School is a National and State Park located in the heart of the Boston Harbor Islands, With a 200-year legacy of serving children in Boston and a 48-year partnership with the Boston Public Schools (BPS), the Island is a beacon for experiential education, empowering young people through hands-on learning and skill building and outdoor adventure and exploration.

We are a proud member of the network of 11 Outward Bound schools in the U.S., with a shared mission to change lives through challenge and discovery.

CSIOBS's core mission is to build stronger, more equitable school communities by delivering free experiential learning programs that boost academic success and foster personal growth.

Our research-based programs blend STEM, social-emotional, and challenge-based learning, giving students a unique opportunity to build life skills alongside academic ones.


Whom do we serve (students, clients, customers)


We offer programs for Boston Public School middle school and high school students, fee-for-service programs for school and youth groups, and leadership development programs for professionals.

We also fund our transformational programs by hosting private and corporate events and weddings.

***- The Corporate Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the robust Corporate Volunteer Program. The position reports to the Development Department and will have the opportunity to learn about both the fundraising and effective corporate engagement of a non-profit organization. The Corporate Volunteer Program Coordinator will support the planning and execution of our on-island corporate volunteer program, to ensure all corporate volunteer groups have an exceptional experience on the island._


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Corporate Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities_
  • Work with Operations, Programs, and Events staff to assess projects needed to be fulfilled by volunteers and develop an annual project list
  • Prepare for each volunteer group ensuring that tools, safety items, and work site are ready
  • Greet all volunteer groups, provide immediate instruction for loading/unloading ferry as needed
  • Coordinate with the Development Engagement Manager weekly on upcoming groups to plan projects accordingly
  • Provide overview of organization history and mission as part of welcome activities on island
  • Oversee all volunteer work activities on island, including providing clear instructions on tools, safety, and expectations
  • Be an ambassador for the organization, staying up to date on possible engagement opportunities to share with volunteers, and reporting back to both the Development Engagement Manager and the Director of Institutional Giving of anyone that could be a prospective donor

QUALIFICATIONS
- _Time management and project organizational skills to effectively prioritize work_
- _Excellent problem-solving skills_
- _Must have excellent attendance and punctuality_
- _Introductory understanding of, and interest in, Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center and its mission_
- _Ability to follow direction and take initiative_
- _Able to maintain professional communication with volunteers and colleagues_
- _Ability to anticipate potential problems and communicate effectively _
- _High School degree required_
- _Able to pass a CORI/SORI_


WORK CONDITIONS

  • The Corporate Volunteer Program requires a commitment of 10 to 20 hours a week. _A _25 minute boat ride to and from Cathleen Stone Island is part of the daily commute.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- _Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. It is the expectation that all employees reporting to the Island assist with the unloading and loading of cargo to/from the ferry_
- _Sometimes work will include time spent in fast-paced, hot and crowded environment _


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation for this position is $22 per hour. Flexible scheduling, pursuant to position.
