    This position provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., or Ph.
    D). This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. Polysomnographic Technologists can perform duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may assist in oversight of other staff.

    Responsibilities

    • Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
    • Determines final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or laboratory protocol.
    • Completes and verifies documentation.
    • Explains pre-testing, testing and post-testing procedures to the patient.
    • Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
    • Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
    • Scores clinical events according to center specific protocols.
    • Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to process visual data and intervene when necessary to maintain technical quality of testing data as well as follow procedural protocols such as Parasomnia studies, administration of positive airway pressure and oxygen titrations to ensure collection of appropriate data.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
    • Knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications
    Required

    • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography.
    • OR
    • Successful completion of a polysomnography program associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility.
    • OR
    • Equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnography Technician.

    Licenses Required

    • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

    • One of the following
    • Current certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
    • Current certification as a Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) through the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
    • Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Disorders Specialty (RRT-SDS) through the National Board of Respiratory Care.
