Description

Under the supervision of the licensed provider, the Medical Assistant (MA) will perform non-invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patients' care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established procedures and standing orders, techniques and work schedules.

As a member of the clinical support care team, the MA working in referrals will serve as the liaison on behalf of the patient and their family and the NEVHC Primary Care Provider (PCP) and the Specialty Care Provider.


Reports to:
Registered Nurse Supervisor (Professional/Technical), Clinic Administrator (Direct/Administration), Director of Nursing Services (Indirect) and Director of Managed Care Enrollment (Indirect)


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate, and completion of a State approved program for Medical Assistants.
  • Completion of state approved training and certification (Calif. Business & Professional Code 2069, 2070; and Calif. Code of Regulations 1377, relating to the performance of injections, skin testing, and withdrawal of blood.
  • Demonstrate prior to ninety days of employment, the ability to prepare clinical equipment and supplies for, and perform sterilization procedures and process relating to equipment and supplies, including the operation of and quality controls on autoclaving equipment; in accordance with approved protocols.
  • Have completed a minimum of 4,160 hours (2 full years) of paid previous experience as a Medical Assistant, including the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as required for an MA I for that clinical area.
  • Display qualities of dependability and reliability, be willing to accept a variety of tasks, and able to comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
  • Must maintain or exceed competency levels as established by corporate standards for clinical practice.
  • Must demonstrate through written and/or oral testing, the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she is able to identify and categorize each patient age specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.
  • Must have completed State approved audiometric training for CHDP.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), electronic health record systems, and database systems.
  • Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).
  • Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).
  • Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write).
  • Current California driver's license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC's insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
