Purpose
In addition to a clinical practice in Anesthesia, the Associate Chief of Advanced Practice Anesthesia Providers works in collaboration with the Chief Advanced Practice Officer and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology to

  • Strategically and programmatically design and recommend evidencebased, costeffective, patient oriented, provider role based clinical practice models that reflect existing and emerging practices and patient populations within settings that employ Froedtert and MCP Anesthetists.
  • Establish highfunctioning relationships with Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), MCP, Community Physicians (CP), and Froedtert Thedacare Health South Region leaders that promote joint strategic planning and goal achievement.
  • Serve as a system liaison for CRNA and CAA (anesthetist) practice standards and scope.
  • Utilize process improvement methodology to enhance workflows and quality metrics.
  • Understand the clinical operations impact on Anesthetists, including role of EMR, analytics, and productivity tracking tools.

Primary Functions:

Clinical: Supports clinical service line growth and development of anesthetist utilization in the management of patients across the continuum of care with an emphasis on the Procedural and Surgical environments.

Utilization: Is a resource for department/division(s) on anesthetist practice models as part of the anesthesia care team.[LC1]

Quality and Safety: Partners with F&MCW Quality and Safety Leaders to improve patient safety and outcomes.

Scope of Practice: Identifies APP processes and workflows, risks, and opportunities. Works within the state and federal regulations and laws, within the Medical Staff Bylaws of FH and with the MCW office of legal, to ensure that credentialed and privileged APPs function within their specialty scope of practice and in accordance with their delineation of privileges, and to the fullest extent of license and training.

Partnership: Serves as a member and/or leader of administrative and clinical committees in coordination with leadership for Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Collaborates with affiliate nursing and pharmacy leadership to standardize and enhance
anesthetist
workflows and transitions of care maximizing provider utilization and maintaining a culture of safety.

Professional Development: Explores a professional advancement model specific to APP clinicians and develops guiding principles and recommendations for professional advancement and/or development as APP clinical experts and leaders.

EMR and Technology
  • Develops Epic Builder skills to participate in electronic medical record optimization for top of license practice and operations that impact APPs with a focus on anesthetics charting. Understands system technology tools and integration across the system.

Academic Partnerships
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with CAA and CRNA educational programs and fosters a positive educational experience for students rotating in our system.

Recruitment and Retention
  • Monitors local and national employment trends. Collaborates with human resources and Chief advanced Practice Officer on compensation, recruitment, and retention strategies.
