POSITION OVERVIEW
-
The Success Program Advisor will help prepare and support college level students through their educational journey so that they have the skills, readiness, and confidence to persist. This person will be a team player with the ability to build rapport, maintain trust, and provide guidance that is encouraging, inclusive and honest._


RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Student Support

  • Prepare students to be college ready (i.e. styles of communication, study skills, time management)
  • Assist in students' adjustment to campus life with a focus on: choosing courses, monitoring academic progress, building a network with their peers and connecting with campus resources
  • Troubleshoot any academic, financial, or emotional challenges students may encounter
  • Track and record student progress in CoPilot (powered by Salesforce) using both quantitative & qualitative data
  • Travel within state of CT for oncampus visits

College Success Programming

  • Help coordinate and execute Success events, including but not limited to: _College Readiness Workshops_, Scholarship Planning and Open Office Hours
  • Manage and operate College Success Closet

Professional Development

  • Model Higher Edge's values and set the standard for professional behavior
  • Attend all Higher Edge meetings
  • Work closely with the entire Higher Edge team to collaborate on projects/program development and problem solve, thinking creatively

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required. Prior experience working at an educational setting preferred, specifically with high school and college students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of higher education system including: admissions, campus resources, financial aid and skills needed to succeed academically
  • Demonstration of strong relationship building skills and evidence of success in working with students, managing a caseload and/or multiple projects

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Professional demeanor that demonstrates patience, open mindedness, and inclusiveness
  • Ability to interact comfortably with college students and diverse constituencies, including educators, campus administrators, and support personnel
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team oriented organization as well as assume independent responsibilities with mínimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain and respect the sensitive, private and confidential nature of student information
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage time to meet deadlines and effectively advise up to 50 students within program parameters and guidelines
  • Eagerness to learn and share knowledge
  • Knowledge of Google Suite software, including but not limited to Gmail, Docs, Drive and Calendar with an aptitude to learn new systems quickly
  • Solid data entry skills and excellent attention to detail. Familiarity with Copilot and/or Salesforce preferred but not required
