    Full Salary Range:

    Salary offers are based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable and consistent pay practices at the University.

    The full range for this position is $82,300 - $151,700/yr. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $82,300 to $104,000/yr.

    Departmental Overview


    The Department of Human Resources is dedicated to providing exemplary customer service in support of teaching, research and the public service mission of UCSB.

    We are committed to forming strategic partnerships within the UCSB community that create a work environment designed to attract, develop and retain the best qualified people.

    The department has a staff of 30+ employees and is made up of the following units:

    Compensation and Classification, Employee Engagement, Employee and Labor Relations, Employee Services (academic and staff assistance program, leave administration, healthcare facilitation, work/life resources, workplace accommodations), Talent Acquisition/Training and Development, UCPath Workforce Administration, and HR office operations.

    Brief Summary of Duties


    Under the general direction of the Leave & Disability Manager, provides expert level workplace accommodations services for staff, faculty and student employees.

    Provides expert level interpretation on union contracts, policies and laws related to highly complex accommodation and/or disability issues. Consults with key stakeholders on complex cases that may be precedent setting. Serves as a lead for other workplace accommodations staff.

    Partners with Leave Administration staff to help develop and design training for managers and supervisors on disability leaves and accommodations.

    Required Qualifications

    Must have 4 to 6 years:

    • Analyzing complex situations regarding disability/accommodations as it affects performance of job duties.
    • Experience using advanced analytical and problem solving skills, and ability to develop recommendations using critical thinking.
    • Experience with writing, speaking and group presentation skills in communicating complex information in a clear and concise manner to multiple levels in the organization.
    Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

    Preferred Qualifications


    • 1-3 years-Experience supervising and/or leading teams.
    • 4-6 years-Experience working successfully with aggressive deadlines and effective time management strategies.
    • 4-6 years-Experience applying applicable laws/policies/regulations to successfully facilitate conversations and provide guidance to all levels of the organization.
    • CPDM Certification

    Responsibilities


    Counseling/Case Management 50% - Provides high level counseling and consultation services to staff, faculty and student employees (and their managers) regarding work place accommodations.

    Uses advanced professional concepts and campus objectives to manage highly complex cases. Regularly works on highly complex cases where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Provides expert advice to managers and supervisors regarding compliance with federal and state laws as it relates to disabilities. Analyzes the essential functions of the positions held by employees with a disability to determine possible reasonable accommodations.

    Provides consultation for job restructuring, work site modifications, modified work schedules, auxiliary aids and equipment, support services and alternative job search.

    Analyzes the skills, knowledge and abilities of employees with a disability to identify appropriate alternative positions within their skills and functional limitations.

    Serves as agent of the University in facilitating the interactive process involving employees with a disability and their manager.

    Consults with the UCSB Talent Acquisition Unit regarding referrals and interviews of applicants for alternate job search and special selection.

    Provides employees with information and referrals to the UCSB Academic & Staff Assistance Program. Represent UC as a witness or expert in court hearings regarding disability discrimination actions.


    Program Administration 40% -As the lead workplace accommodations specialist, is responsible for coordinating workplace accommodations for staff, faculty and student employees with a high degree of autonomy.

    Services include transitioning injured/disabled employees back to work, both work and non-work related and medical leaves of absences.

    Provides expert interpretation and guidance in assisting supervisors, managers, and Human Resources staff in understanding University obligations under California FEHA, ADA, Workers Compensation, policy and contracts.

    Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders including campus Workers Compensation Manager, ADA Deputy Compliance Officer, UC Office of General Counsel, Disabled Student Program Director and other UC vendors.

    Participates in system wide meetings with other disability representatives and provides expert analysis and review on policy changes related to accommodations and medical separations.

    Analyzes data and implements case tracking mechanisms to recommend appropriate program changes and policy revisions to leadership.

    Maintains a secure environment for confidential personnel, medical and case management records in accordance with appropriate state and federal regulations and University policy.

    Serves on campus committees where technical expertise on disability issues is needed and may have campus wide impact. Provides expert interpretation of University policy and procedures on Reasonable Accommodation, Medical Separation, and equivalent union contract sections.


    Training 10% -Designs and conducts workshops for staff, supervisors and managers on federal and state laws, University policy and union contracts concerning people with disabilities and disability issues, and workplace accommodations.

    Collaborates with other HR representatives such as Employee and Labor Relations, Work life Coordinator, Leave Administration and campus services to design and participate in campus trainings.
