Unit Specifics:

· Number of Beds : 12

· Patient Ratios : 5:1

· Unit staffing description- (unit secretaries and tech availability) : Patient Care Tech; Central Tele Monitoring, Charge nurse   

· Type of equipment : iPhone/iMobile, Welch Allyn VS Machine, Hoyers, vein finders, kangaroo pump, Pxysis, Mobilab, Virtual Admit RN

· Documentation system: Meditech

· Scheduling requirements: 12 hrs; weekend rotate

· On Call Requirements: none

· Floating policy: 1st to float 

· Patient Experience requirements: bedside shift report, SAFETY rounding, AIDET, No pass zone

· Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale

Hiring profile

Requested Skill Set: Competency level = medical telemetry experience; 2 years nursing experience minimal

Must have: Active Nurse License, BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale, Understanding of basic dysrhythmias/telemetry

Advanced skills needed:

Understanding of basic dysrhythmias/telemetry

Procedures performed on unit:  

· Vital signs: every 4-8 hours (depending on level of care)

· Continuous cardiac monitoring (remote)

Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale

Dress Code: (Required uniform)

· Royal Blue (Black or Blue pants ok). No T-shirts.

Unit Guidelines/Policies: Please attach unit specific policies and guidelines.

Procedure for acceptance into the Clinical Decision Unit

· CDU is designated as an adult short-stay unit specifically for hemodynamically stable patients in an observation status.

· Patients in CDU should be observed for up to 23 hours

· Are appropriate for the CDU unit when scope of treatment exceeds 6 hours.

· Clinical decision should be made prior to the 23rd hour, for full admission or discharge.

· In the event a patient in the CDU is changed to a full hospital admission, physician orders should be entered into Meditech by the admitting physician prior to the 24-hour mark.  The admitting physician also needs to place transfer orders at the same time the admission orders are entered.
