- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and transparency in financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP or other relevant standards for non-profits.
- Manage grant-related financial activities, including budgeting for grant proposals, tracking grant expenditures, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting.
- Coordinate with auditors for annual audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including IRS filings for tax-exempt status (Form 990 in the U.S.).
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance on accounting principles, systems, and procedures.
- Collaborate with other departments such as fundraising, program management, and administration to support overall organizational goals and initiatives.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements or upgrades to accounting systems and technology to enhance efficiency and data integrity.
- Interpret financial data and trends to provide insights to senior management and the board of directors for informed decision-making.
- Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to stakeholders with varying levels of financial expertise, including board members, donors, and external auditors.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA certification preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 1 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements for non-profit organizations.
- Experience with grant management and reporting is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar platforms).
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
