Performs work in the League City animal shelter to include care and maintenance of animals and grounds while humanely following City policy and State of Texas laws.

This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.


Example of Duties:


  • The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform jobrelated tasks other than those specifically presented in this description._
  • Clean the interior/exterior of the shelter by moving animals and cleaning and disinfecting the cages and kennel areas
  • Interact with animals to determine suitability for adoptions
  • Medicate injured animal according to veterinarian's instructions
  • Complete vaccinations, deworming, ear cleaning, bathing and medicating minor abrasions of animals
  • Communicate observed animal behaviors and demeanor with the public to coordinate animal adoptions
  • Explain shelter guidelines and State requirements for adoptions
  • Complete required paperwork for animals being reclaimed by owners
  • Complete various paperwork including impound paperwork, impound cards, quarantine observations sheets, adoptions paperwork and rabies agreements
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School diploma or equivalent required. No previous experience required.
  • Six months to one year's experience as an animal handler, veterinarian technician, or a related field preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions._
  • Tasks involve the ability to exert light to medium physical effort lifting at least 50 lbs. The position requires constant walking. Some tasks frequently involve sitting, carrying, crouching, bending, stooping, kneeling on both knees, pushing/pulling and be able to tolerate cleaning chemicals, animal dander and hair. Occasionally fixed dexterity, reaching, handling and climbing is required.
