This position collaborates with development and alumni relations staff at the School of Law, as well as central development staff.

The incumbent is expected to use advanced concepts and campus objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Plans, develops, and implements strategies for specific programs, events, activities, policies, constituency groups, etc. that are typically complex or large and may include controversial and/or politically sensitive issues or content.

Annual goals in areas of common best practices in annual fund programs and alumni relations will be set in conjunction with the Senior Director.


Job Summary


This position is of critical importance to the School of Law to ensure that our alumni remain engaged with King Hall and are inspired to become donors to UC Davis.

Under general supervision, provide direction and oversight for day-to-day operations of the School of Law Alumni Relations and Annual Giving program.

Provide high level of direction, responsible for the strategic development, execution and evaluation of a comprehensive innovative alumni program that meets the needs of the alumni constituency, while meeting the strategic objectives of the School of Law.

The Director is responsible for creating programs that encourage alumni to actively participate in programs that serve the law school goals and objectives and encourages constituents to support King Hall through private giving.

Lead and recommend changes and/or options to enhance or improve daily business processes and procedures. Suggest methods and procedures to meet department goals. Direct activities of administrative support staff, regularly assessing performance and providing constructive feedback. Lead and develop training for administrative support staff. Select, hire and train student assistants assigned to unit. Assist supervisor in monitoring daily workload, making adjustments based on staffing and business needs.


This position has the authority and latitude to design and implement a comprehensive alumni engagement program that connects law students and alumni throughout their legal careers.

Responsible for activities associated with reaching, serving, and engaging external constituencies through programs, events, products, and services with a focus on fundraising.

Build and maintain relationships with constituencies include alumni, local community, parents, as well as the genera06/03/20l public.

Translate constituent needs and priorities into customized programs to create, enhance, and sustain relationships between the campus and its external constituencies.

Work closely with admissions, career services, and student organizations to maximize alumni outreach, engagement, and volunteer opportunities.


Develop and direct a strategic annual solicitation program working with the central development office on all content creation, including but not limited to, direct mail, electronic solicitations, special solicitations.

Responsible for all elements of Give Day, including but not limited to, challenge gifts, alumni solicitation, social media campaigns and alumni engagement.

Responsible for attendance at annual milestone reunions and other events. Recruit and manage volunteers to assist in fundraising as needed.

Work with marketing to develop appropriate solicitation and stewardship materials as needed, and assist with creating, implementing, and managing an online web presence for Annual Giving, alumni events, and special projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:


  • Experience using research, analytical, critical thinking and decisionmaking skills and sound judgment to correctly identify real and potential problems, advise management as required, propose effective strategic resolutions.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of alumni relations and engagement, donor and public relations including knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis School of Law and UC Davis Campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure, general knowledge, and current issues facing the legal community.
