    Description

    Job summary

    Under the direction of the Middle School / Upper School Librarian, manage the operation of a school library and maintain a variety of instructional materials and technologies. Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Major responsibilities

    Develop and celebrate community wellness across the disciplines and divisions of Chadwick School.
    • Manage the library space and the students in the library, often at times when the librarian is not present
    • Support the librarian as assigned in various aspects of student management and librarianship, such as checking in books, re-shelving, mending books, creating exhibits, scheduling library use, and keeping records
    • Use technology as appropriate for library management
    • Assist Librarian in collection development activities, including but not limited to conducting inventories of collection, and weeding existing collection
    • Assist with the processing of new materials
    • Troubleshoot issues with printers that may arise
    • Monitor student behavior and use of the Library
    • Able to work with frequent interruptions and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Librarian
    Required Assessment: TB Clearances: Livescan Background check

    Education, experience and skill requirements

    Required qualificationsBachelor's degreePreferred qualifications
    • Previous library experience preferred
    • Experience working with students in grades 7-12
    Required skills and dispositions
    • Pleasant and helpful demeanor; enjoyment of working with students
    • Ability to independently manage the behavior of large groups spread across different areas of the library
    • Collaborative and flexible approach to the role
    • Strong communication skills
    • High levels of organization and reliability
    • Ability to understand and follow complex oral, written, or electronic instructions, and to complete assignments independently
    • Professional confidentiality, for example about students' reading choices
    • Ability to maintain a safe working environment, including immediate and appropriate responses in an emergency without supervision
