Description
The Iowa Department of Commerce is looking to fill a Utilities Regulation Inspector position at the Iowa Utilities Board in its Safety and Engineering section.
Duties involve protecting the public safety through inspection of the facilities and operations of natural gas utilities and hazardous liquids pipeline companies for compliance with the U.S.
The successful candidate will be qualified through Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) training and use industry knowledge to perform pipeline safety inspections, including as lead inspector in specialized inspections such as Distribution Integrity Management and Transmission Integrity Management.
Candidates will assist with the federal/state pipeline safety program compliance, documentation, and training including accident investigation of natural gas transmission or distribution pipelines or facilities, addressing customer complaints, and preparation of reports, letters, and related documentation.
Must be a self-starter who can organize daily workload and be able to work independently without immediate supervision when in the field.
Position involves considerable travel, often overnight. Utilities Regulation Inspectors must maintain a valid driver's license and the ability to drive a state vehicle. Two years of experience in the inspection, supervision, construction and/or operation and maintenance of private or public utility installations and facilities, including natural gas pipeline and/or electric transmission and distribution facilities;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year (thirty semester hours or its equivalent) of post high school education in engineering technology for one year of the required work experience to a maximum of two years.
