The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional member of the health care team who provides skilled nursing careto patients in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and within standards of clinical practice as defined by the
American Nurses Association and the policies and procedures of the agency. The RN is responsible for the total
nursing care of all assigned patients and must have professional liability insurance coverage.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts, and have a
minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in an acute care facility as a staff nurse and a minimum of six (6)
months of experience and/or additional training for private duty. RNs must have at least three (3) satisfactory
references from previous employers and must have successfully completed the RN/LPN Skills
Assessment/Medication test with a score of 75 percent or better. If working as a specialty in a field,
documentation of the skills and certifications must be provided. must possess and maintain current certification
in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), must display good emotional health and be able to tolerate
standing, stooping, bending physically, and heavy lifting; must comply with all agency regulations. RNs must be self
- directed and can work with little supervision and have good observation/nursing judgment and
communication skills.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Reports directly to the Nurse Supervisor, when working as staff in facility or reports to the Director of Nursing,
one-step above when working in other positions in a facility. (Generally, the chain of command is (1) RN, (2)
Nurse Supervisor, (3) Director of Nursing.
- Reports to the agency Director of Nursing when working on a private duty/pay case
- Is responsible for own actions and for seeking/acquiring sufficient information necessary to function effectively
- Maintains and remains current in nursing skills/clinical practice through attendance of continuing education
- Assist in assessments of patient's needs, implementing plans, documents, and evaluated nursing care of each
- Aides in the continuity of care by charting and reporting accurately on all assigned patients.
- Performs routine nursing duties (vital signs, personal care, nutritional teaching, exercise, etc., and any other
- Assists patient's family in coping with the patient's illness
- Notifies the agency and the physicians of acute changes in the patient's condition
