After School Mindfulness Teacher and SEL Director


The After School Mindfulness Leader and SEL Director will ensure that mindfulness lessons and SEL lessons occur with fidelity throughout the after school program at both campuses.

They will coach and develop AS teachers and SEL teachers to ensure quality of programming and positive outcomes for students and staff.

They will be critical in ensuring that we meet the goals of the Stronger Connections AS grant.


Responsibilities

SEL Program Development:


  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive SEL programs aligned with researchbased best practices and the unique needs of our student population.
  • Coach and develop the SEL Teachers (stipend positions for AS). Ensure that they are able to implement strong SEL programming at both campus AS programs.
  • Connect SEL Programs to our Etoile REACH values to ensure students internalize both the core values and the importance of SEL.
  • Lead, model, coteach and deliver mindfulness programming throughout the school and after school program to ensure best practices are present.
  • Collaborate with the Culture, SPED, and Social Work/Counseling Teams to ensure that our SEL programs and practices are aligned and integrated into our culture and disciplinary systems and multitiered systems of support (MTSS) including RTI (response to intervention) processes, as needed.

Curriculum Design and Implementation:


  • Design SEL curricula and resources that integrate seamlessly into existing academic frameworks, fostering the development of key SEL competencies such as selfawareness, selfmanagement, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decisionmaking.
  • Utilize the Wayfinder curriculum to ensure best practices with SEL lessons and engaging lessons for students.
  • Support the AS teachers and SEL teachers in implementing the Wayfinder curriculum with all learners.
  • Support teachers with differentiating and scaffolding lessons from the Wayfinder curriculum as needed.

Professional Development:


  • Provide ongoing training and support for educators to effectively integrate SEL practices into their teaching pedagogy and classroom management strategies.
  • Provide ongoing training and support on the Wayfinder curriculum.
  • Serve as an SEL resource for staff and support staff in their own SEL needs including restorative conversations and techniques for emotional regulation.
  • Live coach teachers to ensure SEL implementation and strong mindfulness lessons exist throughout the school and after school program.

Data Analysis and Evaluation:


  • Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of SEL initiatives, identify areas for improvement, and make datainformed decisions to enhance program outcomes.
  • Ensure all necessary data is collected, analyzed and submitted to the Stronger Connections grant.

Stakeholder Engagement:


  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, students, families, and community partners to cultivate a culture of SEL throughout the organization, fostering strong relationships and a sense of belonging for all stakeholders.

Community Outreach:


  • Forge partnerships with local organizations, agencies, and stakeholders to expand access to SEL resources and opportunities for students and families beyond the school environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required
  • Experience with teaching and/or leading mindfulness in a urban education setting required
  • A minimum of three years teaching or leading experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
  • Measurable evidence of driving student achievement gains
  • A commitment to working with underserved, urban youth
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff
  • Open to feedback, desire to continue development as a professional and willingness to take responsibility for student outcomes and achievement
  • Alignment with school's mission and core values
