Position Summary:


NJY Teen Camp (TAC) is seeking an energetic, creative, and passionate leader to serve as our camp's Mental Health Professional.

This MESSH (Mental, Emotional, Social, and Spiritual Health) Professional serves a key role in the overall camper care and staff care of our community, both for Teen Camp campers and staff.

Under the supervision of the Teen Programs Director and the NJY full-time Mental Health professional, the MESSH professional is responsible for the development of successful mental health support structures for teen campers and staff.

This is a seasonal summer full-time non-exempt position, with part-time hours before summer session begins.


Responsibilities:


  • Pre and post camp:_
  • Work with Directors on staff training and development of a plan for ongoing staff learning in regards to mental health
  • Work with Directors on updating staff evaluation and daily checkin forms for tracking wellness
  • Participate in Foundation for Jewish Camp's Community of Practice as part of the Yedid Nefesh program. This includes two or three virtual and one inperson gathering per year with other Jewish camp mental health professionals
  • Work with mental health team and directors in formulating a marketing plan in line with our grant work and our MESSH work
  • Develop MESSH centric programs in partnership with the Teen Programs Director
  • During the summer season:_
  • Be present at camp onsite for the full duration of camp (housing is provided), weaving yourself into the fabric of the camp community
  • Assist counselors and camp leadership in problem solving cases wherein campers need special support
  • Serve as an emotional resource to staff as needed
  • Communicate with supervisors and Directors regarding staff issues
  • Design and lead training for staff in areas such as camper care and selfcare
  • Create a plan for ongoing staff training on mental health in camp
  • Attend Leadership Team meetings
  • Record notes about mental health interventions and situations, successes and challenges, in our camp database. Submit weekly reports to Foundation for Jewish Camp as part of our Yedid Nefesh program participation
  • Facilitate discussions, when needed, between counselors and leadership staff, as a mediator
  • Travel with Teen Camp on extended tipsFor 2023 it will require 4 days in Canada and 4 weeks in Israel. Typically Teen Camp has 2 oneweek travel trips.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range of $6000-$7500, commensurate with experience
Private Room & Board Provided
Discounted camp fees for children (if applicable)
