Job Summary


Performs journeyman-level skilled mechanical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, latches, exit devices, door checks, panic bars and related locking hardware, including duplication of keys and changing of lock combinations.

This class lies directly below that of Locksmith Foreperson.


Essential Functions

  • Installs, maintains and repairs locks, latches, door checks, hydraulic door closers, exit devices, panic bars and related locking hardware.
  • Makes, modifies, and installs new parts as required.
  • Makes new or duplicate keys for pattern or code; open locks for which there is no key or combination is unkown; identifies keys.
  • Maintains key records, patterns, codes and combinations as authorized by the School Locksmith Foreperson.
  • Uses key machines, drills and related hand tools in the performance of duties.
  • Changes lock combinations as instructed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Probation:6 months


Qualifications

Open Requirements:
Ability to read and write English.

Shall have at least three (3) years of experience in locksmithing with knowledge of methods, materials and tools of the trade to include hydraulic door closers.

Licensing/Certification/Registration:
A valid Florida Driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, materials and practices of the locksmith trade, to include hydraulic door closers
  • Strong mechanical locksmithing skills
  • Basic mathematical skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Basic oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with supervisors, employees and the general public
