***This position is based in the San Francisco Bay/Marin Country area and is a 6+ month termed full-time exempt position with the possibility of extension.


The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art seeks an Associate Collections Manager toon the Museum Services team to act as the on-site collections lead for a 6+ month inventory project located at the Lucas film Archive storage.

Reporting to the Head of Collections Management, this position requires a confident mastery of collections management processes over multiple designations and mediums of objects, including works on paper, paintings, têxtiles, and objects, as well as an open and creative spirit that can oversee various requests and expectations simultaneously.

The person in this role will act as the on-site manager for collections care and will work in tandem with a team consisting of Collections Management, Registration and Curatorial to set schedules and milestones.

Also, this role should have an understanding and comfort with the basics of museum management and the collaborative integration between all departments in an institution.


The Associate Collections Manager will act as the project supervisor to entry-to-mid level collections staff, working closely with the Head of Collections Management to provide training and daily oversight to ensure museum best practices are being followed.

This position also works closely with the Registration department to support project related registration, collection inventory, and more.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Collaborates closely with the Head of Collections Management to develop and maintain departmental goals and objectives related to Lucasfilm Archive Research Project
  • Responsible for the implementation, and management of Collections Management department processes and protocols as related to the Research Project
  • Partners with the Head of Collections Management in the management of project workflows and schedules to meet milestones and goals in collaboration with project team
  • Coordinates Research Project logistics of collection rehousing and storage throughout the Lucasfilm Archive storage facilities
  • Oversees Project related procurement, including requesting estimates for new equipment and archival supplies, and keeping associated records
  • Oversees and undertakes collections care processes and maintenance in storage spaces including collection movement and rehousing
  • Oversees Project Assigned Collections Management Technicians, vendors, and contractors including tracking progress, quality of work, and deliverables
  • Oversees proper handling, packing, and rehousing techniques
  • Collaborates with other Collections Management staff and museum departments to accomplish simultaneous goals and projects to museum standards and in alignment with best practices
  • Performs storeroom maintenance and upgrades including constructing shelving, installing earthquake mitigation, cleaning and organization as needed
  • Special Projects as designated by Head of Collections Management

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 58 years of experience in art handling, collections care, and museum best practices,required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in art, art history, museum studies, arts administration, or a closely related field, preferred
  • Leadership experience in a team, preferred
