The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a National Human Resource Director, HeartCorps.


This position reports directly to the National Senior Vice President, Talent, and is the lead HR manager for AHA's public health AmeriCorps Service program, HeartCorps.

HeartCorps' members serve in rural communities, supporting, developing, and implementing programs and education around high blood pressure, nutrition, food security, and smoking cessation.


This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, grant-funded opportunity; current funding is through 06/30/2026 with renewal options. The position can be home-based.

Responsibilities


Lead a dedicated HR Coordinator and Recruiter to manage sourcing, recruiting, onboarding, and HR support for ~100 service members across the US.


This service-minded individual will be a recruiter and business partner to executives, managers, and service members in developing and implementing human resources strategies and solutions.

In partnership with the HeartCorps Program Director, HR Shared Services, Talent Attraction, and Learning & Development teams, coordinate and manage all the HR components and infrastructure to maintain compliance with the federal grant, AmeriCorps, and the American Heart Association.

In alignment with the National Director, University Relations, lead a campaign to engage schools and associations as a source of diverse talent and further champion brand awareness of the AHA and the HeartCorps program.


Recruitment Outreach and Marketing

  • In partnership with Employer Branding and the Sr. Marketing Communications Manager, HeartCorps, develop messaging for engaging schools, community organizations, local businesses and attracting service members.
  • Contract with recruiting vendors and use a variety of channels to market the program and service member positions, including social media, recruiting platforms, and the AmeriCorps platform. Participate in virtual and in person career fairs.
  • Ensure representation in select events by coordinating with HR Business Partners, Talent Attraction and Business Leaders.
  • Cultivate relationships with community colleges, universities, and trade schools. Use objective criteria to identify and select targeted partnerships. Build strategies for each partnership and develop relationships with professors, deans, career counseling offices and alumni.

Recruit, Interview and Hire

  • Source and recruit talent across the US to fill the ~100 service member positions.
  • Ensure alignment with overall diversity and communitybased commitments to meet the expectations of the AHA and the grant.
  • Run the interview process, ensuring consistent and efficient selection and a positive online and inperson experience.
  • Partner with the business in selection decisions and extending offers.

HR Management

  • Partner with business leaders to identify required skills, locations and forecast needs.
  • Lead all HR aspects of the service member experience from first outreach through offer to service execution and transition from the program.
  • Follow federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Comply with AmeriCorps and National Service Criminal History Check requirements; carry out adherence to requirements; and implement needed actions.
  • Track HR metrics and analyze data to provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in HR processes and practices.
  • In conjunction with the National Program Training & Development Manager, HeartCorps, and other partners, support the onboarding and learning experience for service members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Communications, Psychology, Business, related field or a combination of education and work experience that yields the mínimally required skills.
  • Minimum of five (5) years HR experience.
