    The HVAC mechanic is responsible for general maintenance, repairs and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems.

    This position provides a first response to trouble calls related to hot/cold conditions as well as ice machine and refrigeration issues.


    Job Description:

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Performs basic repairs and maintenance of all heating/cooling and ventilating components common to building operations. (essential)
    • Operates, repairs, maintains and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment common to the HVAC trade. (essential)
    • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (essential)
    • Performs record keeping requirements and written reports as part of a daily routine. (essential)
    • Required to respond to emergencies such as floods, power outages, etc. during off shift hours if asked to do so by the department supervisors. Snow removal is also the responsibility of the Maintenance Department and all Maintenance employees are required to participate in the snow removal process (essential)

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Experienced in brazing, silver solder and performing pipe alterations.
    • Works from blue prints and specifications, locating and diagnosing mechanical troubles and estimating requirements and materials for repair and installations.

    Required Qualifications:

    • High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training in HVAC preferred.
    • Certificate 1 CFC Universal Certificate required.
    3. 3-5 years related work experience required.


    • Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

    Ability to understand spoken English in order to follow basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively in basic English with patients, families and medical center staff in response to routine questions.


    Knowledge:

    Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations.

    Specialized knowledge not required.

    Team Work:

    Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.


    Customer Service:
    Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.


    Social/Environmental Requirements:

    • Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.
    • Work routine is fairly consistent, but employee needs to be able to use judgment to respond to events several times a week.
    • Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions

    o Daily:
    Exposure to dust,gas,fumes,steam,chemicals, Work at heights(such as scaffolding or ladders), Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc).

    o Several times a week:
    Extreme heat(above 100 degrees), Noise(need to shout to be heard), Work outdoors(no effective protection from weather).

    o Seasonally:
    Extreme cold(below 32 degrees).

    Health Care Status:
    HCW 3: Regular provision of service in a patient care area


    Examples:
    Unit coordinators, lead coordinator/supervisor, patient liaison, nutrition services, environmental services, registrars, information desks, security, etc- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department


    Sensory Requirements:


    Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual clarity > 20 feet, Visual clarity <3 feet, Hot/Cold, Sharp/Dull, Smell, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Background Noise.


    Physical Requirements:

    Medium work:
    Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.


    This job requires constant walking, standing,frequent bending neck, bending waist, twisting neck, twisting waist, Power Grasping using both hands, Fine Manipulation using both hands, Pushing/Pulling using both hands, Reaching-above shoulder height, Reaching-below shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 10 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 25 lbs.

    There may be occasional Crawling, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 75 lbs.

    Rarely there may be Keyboard use, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 75 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs.
