VCSB is looking for our next Peer Recovery Specialist A Peer is a partner who provides support to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges.

As part of the Adult Mental Health Services team, the Peer plays a vital part in an individual's road to recovery by acting as a bridge between the individual and their treatment providers.

_Summary of Essential Functions_

  • Conducts regular reviews of clients' strengths and needs.
  • Helps clients develop and utilize healthy coping mechanisms, positive selfmanagement techniques, problemsolving skills, symptom management, and effective communication skills.
  • Supports the development of selfadvocacy skills through personcentered, strengthsbased recovery planning and goal setting.
  • Empowers clients to take a direct, proactive role in developing and updating their ISP and RRWP.
  • Provides crisis support as needed in partnership with other team members.
  • Coordinates treatment services with other agencies, including, but not limited to, education, consultation, and technical assistance as needed.

_Minimum Qualifications_
All applicants must meet the following in order to be considered qualified for the position.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must have lived experience pertaining to mental health or substance use challenges, meaning:
  • Personally experienced mental health or substance use challenges
    and currently celebrating at least one year of recovery,
    or:
  • Closely related to or a guardian for an individual who experiences mental health or substance use challenges.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license with a points balance of at least 0,
    or obtain a valid Virginia driver's license within 90 days of hire.

_Preferred Qualifications_

  • Previous experience working in mental health or substance use treatment.
  • Currently certified as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
