FoodCorps connects students to the joy and power of food.
We do this through education in the classroom and garden, as well as promoting nourishing school meals and new menu items in the cafeteria.
To support these initiatives, we hire FoodCorps AmeriCorps service members.These service members are placed in schools and/or district offices for 11 months (August-July) and receive a living stipend of $33,000 (paid bi-weekly) for their time.
They also receive professional development opportunities in the field of nutrition, agriculture, and education.It's truly a great opportunity for anyone that is interested in pursuing a career in teaching, agriculture, policy, or the nonprofit sector.
Most service members do the following
Lead Hands-On Lessons – You'll teach students to grow, cook, and taste new foods, building their knowledge of and enthusiasm for fruits and veggies.
Influence Nourishing School Meals – You'll cultivate a cafeteria experience that steers students towards fresh fruits and veggies, gets them excited to try new foods, and celebrates their culture and community.
Build A Culture of Health – You'll be an active, collaborative member of the school community, working to ensure that the whole school environment—from hallway to classroom to cafeteria—celebrates nourishing food.
To be considered for a FoodCorps service member position, you must:
The ideal candidate has:
- $33,000 living stipend, paid bi-weekly in amounts of $1375
- $6,895 AmeriCorps Segal Education Award, upon successful completion of your service term.
You may also be eligible for student loan forbearance, partial childcare reimbursements, and/or financial assistance for relocation or extenuating circumstances.
