Position Summary

Major Duties

  • Supervise Registered Exterminators as defined by the MDA and ensure that new Exterminators attend an MDA Approved pest control training program within 30days of being hired. Ensure that Exterminators register with MDA.
  • Inspects units to determine extent and nature of routine pest problems and major infestations.
  • Mixes and uses chemicals according to accepted industry standards and safety precautions.
  • Answers calls for pest control services requested by residents.
  • Maintains equipment in good working condition; ensures that all chemicals and equipment are properly stored.
  • Orders and keeps records of all chemicals purchased and disbursed and ensures that all chemical containers are properly labeled.
  • Stays abreast of changes in MDA State Law that affects Pest Control.
  • Periodically holds meetings with the Exterminators advising them of any changes in State Law or safety measures that may affect them in performing their pest control duties.
  • Prepares work orders and maintains records of all apartments that are treated.
  • Investigates and resolves residents' complaints concerning pests.
  • Works with residents to implement good sanitary habits and pest control procedures.
  • Execute performance evaluations. Assist in the preparation of performance evaluations for subordinate in the review of performance evaluations for maintenance department in accordance with the Housing Authority standards.
  • Maintain a routine work order average completion time of less than 30 days.
  • Ensure emergency work orders are abated / completed within twentyfour (24) hours.
  • Assist with preparation of required reports and documentation as required by the MDA, Housing Authority and/or HUD policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and work with staff to develop and retain highly competent, customer service orientated staff through selection, training and day to day management practices to accomplish the agency's mission.
  • Coordinate maintenance staff oncall and overtime processes.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with resident councils, residents, peers, subordinates, supervisors, vendors, and general public.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and HABC staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience


Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school with at least four (4) years pest control experience at the journeyman level, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the requirements above provided that the experience to meet the required knowledge and abilities.


Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Maryland driver's license.
  • Must be able to be covered under the Authority's fidelity bond.
  • Must be able to be covered under the Authority's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Maryland Department of Agriculture certification.

Other Requirements

  • You must successfully pass a prescreening investigation, including employment and education verification, drug screening, and a physical examination.
  • Probationary Period: This is a fulltime permanent position. Upon employment, you will be required to serve a 6month probationary period.
  • All new employees are required to receive at least one COVID19 vaccination shot in a twoshot series or be fully vaccinated prior to the date of hire.
